Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is widely used to describe any dental procedure that improving the look of gums, teeth and/or bite. It mainly focuses on enhancement in dental aesthetics, in terms of colour, size, shape, alignment and even smile look. It is said to be the second most common specialization after orthodontics. It can be broadly divided into the following categories: corrective, restorative, cosmetic, prosthetic and basic. The latter are mostly applicable for patients who have missing teeth. corrective cosmetic dentistry focuses more on straightening teeth and improving their appearance; restorative cosmetic dentistry deals with restoring tooth structure; prosthetic, cosmetic dentistry on improving or creating a prosthetic tooth for patients who have lost one; basic cosmetic dentistry is focused on enhancing the overall dental appeal of patients through the complete makeover of the oral cavity; and cosmetic dentistry of the academicians deals more on the aesthetic aspects of the face and finishing other dental works.

Cosmetic dentistry has evolved since the year 2021 BC. It started as an amalgamation of aesthetic dental medicine and orthodontics. Later on, cosmetic dentistry became more known as cosmetic dentistry. Dentistry started as a branch of medicine that focused more on the physical and mental condition of a person. With the evolution of time, dentists also became experts of cosmetic dentistry. They can perform a wide range of dental procedures depending on what suits a person best.

Among the common procedures in cosmetic dentistry include porcelain veneers, laminates, composite bonding, bleaching, tooth whitening, crowns, lumineers, fixed amalgam fillings, direct fillings, implant crowns, dental implants, ceramic inlays, super crowns, porcelain inlays, Invisalign, and laser gum contouring. Each of these is done to improve the overall appearance of a person's teeth and gums. One can choose from these depending on his or her budget, desire, and requirement. Certain treatments may not be suitable for certain people.

Some of these common dental treatments according to doctors are costly because they require high quality materials. Some require several visits to achieve the desired results. Dental insurance may not always cover cosmetic dentistry costs. For example, Lumineers and Invisalign are considered a form of Invisalign treatment, which means that your dental insurance will not cover you for this treatment.

Initial consultation is very important to find out if a particular treatment is suitable for you. You should make sure that your dentist is experienced in performing the procedure that interests you. If you are looking for a teeth whitening procedure, your dentist should be able to offer you a reasonable alternative to your original choice. You should also find out about the dentist's experience and qualifications to be able to know if he or she is competent and experienced to perform the procedure that interests you.

It is also important to find out about cosmetic dentistry costs, especially for dental implants. Most people prefer to have dental implants rather than replacing missing teeth. It is usually more expensive to replace one tooth with a titanium post, but this procedure has been proven to be effective in correcting most facial defects, if it is carried out properly. Furthermore, most dentists are aware that you cannot get the full result with dental implants alone. A good dentist will only recommend the use of dental implants when all other methods fail.
